Acne scars are what remain after inflamed pimples heal. Flat red or brown marks fade with time and treatment, but pitted scars are changes in the skin's collagen and need procedures to improve. Pitted scars can be improved substantially, often by half or more over a course, but not erased. Flat dark marks respond better and can fade almost fully. We show you realistic outcomes for your scar types before starting.
Dark marks can be treated as soon as active acne is under control. Procedures for pitted scars usually begin once the skin has been clear for a few months and any isotretinoin course has been completed.
Numbing cream is applied before laser, microneedling, subcision and TCA cross, so you feel warmth and pressure rather than pain. Redness and pinpoint scabs settle within a week.
Most patients need 4 to 6 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart, often combining two procedures. Deep or long-standing scars may need more.
